By Car

We have a free parking lot behind the 11th Avenue Inn for your car.  You may want to leave your car parked in our lot while you are exploring Downtown Seattle, our neighborhood (Capitol Hill), and neighborhoods near Downtown Seattle. The traffic, street signs, one-way streets, searching for parking, parking signage, and paying for parking can be very frustrating; even for those of us who live here, and really know our way around town.

Neighborhoods Near Downtown

In most cases, it's easier and less stressful to walk or to take a bus, the train, a streetcar, taxi, or Uber/Lyft when traveling from the 11th Avenue Inn to a destination in Capitol Hill, Downtown Seattle, or an urban neighborhood near Downtown Seattle such as Pike Place Market, Seattle Center / Space Needle, Pioneer Square, Waterfront, Stadiums, South Lake Union, First Hill, and  Lower Queen Anne.

Other Neighborhoods

If you have a car, you can drive to Seattle neighborhoods away from Downtown such Ballard, Fremont, Greenlake, West Seattle, Alki, Magnolia, Madison Park, etc. Seattle has dozens of great neighborhoods. Driving and parking near the centers of those neighborhoods might also be a little challenging though.  If traveling to the University District, it might be easier to take the #49 bus or the Link light rail train than to drive.  If you plan to travel to nearby cities or attractions outside of the City of Seattle, and you have a car, then it usually makes sense to drive to those destinations.

Should You Rent a Car?

You can rent a car at SeaTac airport, or in Downtown Seattle. Both the airport and downtown have about a dozen car rental companies.

If you are visiting Seattle for a few days or less, there is enough to do within walking or transit / taxi distance that a car might be more of a hassle than a convenience.

If you are in Seattle for a week or more, it might be nice to have a car for some or all of your visit so that you can easily visit Seattle neighborhoods located further away from Downtown Seattle and attractions outside of the city, especially if you can get a good weekly rate on the car rental.

If you like to drive around new cities, it would be fun to have a car so you can get off the beaten path or go wherever you want whenever you want.  Keep in mind that Seattle traffic is often very bad during rush hours, and sometimes bad at random times throughout the day due to accidents, construction, special events, etc.

If you will be driving from Seattle to another part of the Pacific Northwest after leaving the 11th Avenue Inn, then it might make sense to rent the car when you arrive at the airport.
