Traveling to the Inn from the Airport
The 11th Avenue Inn is located next to Downtown Seattle. Both the Inn and Downtown Seattle are 15 miles north of Seattle-Tacoma Airport (AKA Sea-Tac or SEA). This is the major airport near the City of Seattle. If you rent a car or take a taxi, the drive to our Inn is 30 minutes without traffic, or up to 45 minutes in traffic. You can also travel to the Inn by taking the light-rail train from the airport to the Westlake Station stop in Downtown Seattle. This stop is exactly 1.0 mile from the Inn. From there you can taxi, bus, or walk to the Inn. Details on these options are provided below. UPDATE : On Mar 19, 2016, the Capitol Hill Station will open 2 blocks from the 11th Avenue Inn. Our guests will be able to take the train from the airport to the Capitol Hill Station and walk 2 minutes to the Inn.
If you don't rent a car, I recommend either taking a taxi ($45) or taking the light rail train from the airport to downtown ($3/person) and then a taxi ($9). Details on all options are provided below, and you can also download a pdf of these directions.
Driving a Rental Car
All rental car companies currently operating at Sea-Tac Airport have moved their customer service counters, rental vehicles and related activities to a new rental car facility as of 2012. Dedicated shuttle buses operate 24 hours a day with two passenger pick-up areas located outside baggage claim at the north and south ends of the main terminal. upon arrival at the airport, proceed to the baggage claim level and pick up your checked bags. Exit the sliding glass doors near carousel #1 or #15 and walk to one of the two designated shuttle bus pick-up areas. Shuttle buses depart frequently for the 5 minute ride to the rental car facility.
After to you get your car, follow signs to Freeways / I-5 North (Seattle). If using GPS, enter "121 11th Avenue East". Do not enter simply "121 11th Avenue," or you will be guided to a different part of town. Make sure you add “East” to the street name. Take I-5 North heading towards Seattle for about 10 miles. As I-5 starts to tunnel under downtown Seattle, quickly get over to the right lane and take Exit 166 - Olive Way. Follow Olive Way up the hill, through 5 traffic lights, and across Broadway. As you cross Broadway, the street name changes from Olive Way to East John Street. Take the 2nd right after Broadway onto 11th Avenue East. The Inn is the 2nd house on the right. It’s a big gold house behind a small grove of trees. The gravel driveway is on the far (south) side of the house. Swing out wide to turn in. Drive down the driveway and take one of the parking spots behind the Inn. Please call the number posted on the front door, and we'll be with you shortly.
Take a Taxi
A taxi ride from airport to the Inn is 15 miles, takes about 30 minutes (if no traffic), and costs about $45. From the terminal / baggage claim, follow the signs for "Ground Transportation" to the third floor of the parking garage. The ground transportation signs will also direct you to the taxi stand. Direct the taxi driver to 121 11th Avenue East on Capitol Hill in Seattle. This is 11th Avenue East between East John and East Denny. This should be plenty of information for the taxi driver. The taxi driver will take the Madison Street exit or Olive Way exit. The Inn is a big gold house behind a small grove of trees.
Take the Train
UPDATE : On Mar 19, 2016, the Capitol Hill Station will open 2 blocks from the 11th Avenue Inn. Our guests will be able to take the train from the airport to the Capitol Hill Station and walk 2 minutes to the Inn. Until then, here are the directions:
The cost is $3 per person. Total travel time to the Inn is about 60-90 minutes, depending on whether you walk, taxi, or bus to the Inn from the Westlake Center downtown train station. More details on these three options below. Travel time by train from the airport to the Westlake Center station in downtown is 37 minutes. The train operates from approximately 6AM-12AM every day with an average frequency of 10 minutes. From terminal / baggage claim, follow signs to Skybridge 6 and Light Rail Train. It’s a ¼ mile walk. At the train station, locate a ticket vending machine. Buy a ticket to the Westlake Center station. Fares are inspected at random on board. The ORCA card is our regional transit e-payment purse system. It’s convenient for local commuters, but our guests who have tried to use the system have found it to be confusing, so I don’t recommend it for or guests. Follow signs to board trains northbound to Seattle. Ride the train to the final stop - Westlake Center in downtown Seattle. Follow the signs to exit the station at 5th Avenue and Pine Street. From there, taxi, bus or walk to the Inn.
* OPTION 1 : TAKE A TAXI : Many taxis drive by the station exits looking for customers. Hail a taxi on the street. The fare to the Inn will be about $9. Our address is 121 11th Avenue East on Capitol Hill between Denny and John. The driver will probably drive up either Pike St or Olive Way.
* OPTION 2 : TAKE A BUS : Walk 1 block south to Pike St and 3 blocks east to the bus stop at Pike St and Convention Place / 9th Avenue. Take the #43 or #49 bus – whichever one arrives at the stop first. The buses operate from approximately 6AM-12AM every day with an average frequency of 15 minutes. The fare is $2.25 per person (or $2.50 during rush hours). The bus driver will tell you the fare, or look at the placard on the fare machine. Pay with exact change (coins or bills); the bus drivers don't provide change. Slide the dollars and drop the coins into the fare machine. The #43 travels up Pike St, turns left onto Bellevue Ave, and then turns right on Olive Way. You will get off the bus at the stop between Harvard Ave and Broadway. This is a popular stop, so another rider will probably pull the cord above the windows to alert the driver to stop there, but if not, pull the cord as the bus crosses Belmont or Boylston Avenue. The #49 bus travels up Pike street, turns left onto Bellevue Ave, turns right onto E Pine St, then left onto Broadway. You will get off the bus at the Broadway and E John St stop. This is a popular stop, so another rider will probably pull the cord above the windows to alert the driver to stop there, but if not, pull the cord as the bus passes Denny Way and the red wall. From either of these two stops, walk east along E John St. (The same street is called “E John St” on the east side of Broadway, and “Olive Way” on the west side of Broadway. This confuses locals as well). Walk east for two blocks along E John St and turn right on 11th Avenue East. The Inn is the 2nd house on the right. It’s a gold house a black iron fence and lots of trees in front on the right (west) side of the street. * OPTION 3: WALK: It's one mile, and it’s uphill. Not recommended unless you like to walk and have little luggage. One route is to walk east up Pine St for .75 mile, turn left onto 11th Avenue, walk past the park and across Denny, to 121 11th Avenue East. The Inn is a gold house a black iron fence and lots of trees in front on the west side of the street. It's the 4th house on the left after Denny.
Take a Shared Van Service
Shuttle Express is the airport's shared ride van service. 2013 rate is $37 for one passenger, $39 for two, $42 for three, etc. Shuttles run almost continuously around the clock, usually every 15 minutes, with scheduled departure and arrival times. Follow the "Ground Transportation" signs to the Ground Transportation Information Booth located on the third floor of the Parking Garage to make arrangements. No advance reservation necessary.
Take a Town Car or Limousine
Stationed at the airport, STILA (Seattle Tacoma International Limo Association) offers town cars, SUVs, and stretch limos and picks up passengers either at the curb outside of Baggage Claim or on the third floor of the parking garage. To arrange for a limousine or town car, use the touch screen to access "Ground Transportation" on any of the Travelers' Information Boards in Baggage Claim (located near the escalators), use curbside phones, or go to the Ground Transportation Booth on the third floor of the parking garage. You can also contact STILA at (206) 930-1966. Fares seem to be $60-$80. Shuttle Express (see above) also offers town car and limo service in the same price range, maybe a little higher.
